Shooting a sunset on Cape Cod
Tom was born and raised in Maryland just outside of Baltimore and Annapolis. He grew up with a love of all movies and technology. His passion for cinema continued through high school and eventually led to studying film at Towson University where he earned his B.S. in Electronic Media and Film. Throughout all of that film study, there was a strong passion for sound design and new tech.
When Virtual Reality first came onto the scene, Tom was still just a lowly computer nerd in high school who liked movies. VR was way too expensive and slowly it seemed to fade into the background. Enter Oculus and Meta, the creators of one of the first really accessible VR headsets. Tom was hooked.
Combining his background with film production, sound design and recording Tom dove head first into experimenting with immersive media. That experimentation began first with 360 video and ambisonic audio. Eventually he landed on 3D VR180 video (still with spatial audio), which has become Tom’s preferred method of production.
